DHAKA, June 10, 2026 (BSS) - The University Grants Commission (UGC) is 
planning to establish a permanent dialogue platform involving stakeholders to 
identify and resolve academic and administrative challenges in the country's 
universities.

At the same time, the commission is also preparing to introduce continuous 
training programmes to enhance the skills and competencies of university 
teachers.

UGC Chairman Prof. Mamun Ahmed disclosed the information at an exchange 
meeting held at the UGC office in Agargaon, Dhaka on today afternoon.

The meeting was held with vice-chancellors of public and private universities 
under the "Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT)" project, 
focusing on training arrangements aimed at improving the capacity of 
university teachers.

Speaking at the meeting, Mamun Ahmed said that it is necessary to expand 
opportunities for mutual cooperation and experience sharing among 
universities to address the various challenges in the higher education 
sector.

He said an integrated platform will be created where university teachers, 
administrators and other stakeholders will be able to regularly discuss 
different problems and prospects. This will also help strengthen inter-
university communication and collaboration.

The UGC chairman also said that important guidance was recently received from 
a workshop held with the Prime Minister regarding higher education 
transformation and the formulation of a long-term roadmap. Based on that 
guidance and the commission's existing strategic development plan, a new 
action plan will be prepared.

He further said that initiatives are being taken to develop students not only 
for jobs but also as entrepreneurs in order to make higher education more 
contemporary and relevant.

Detailed discussions were also held at the meeting on organizing management 
training for senior university teachers and foundational training for junior 
teachers.

It was also informed that these training programmes will be conducted in 
residential and hybrid formats. The meeting also discussed making training 
mandatory, linking training with promotions, and forming a pool of domestic 
and foreign trainers. These initiatives will be implemented gradually under 
the HEAT project.

Among others, UGC members Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Prof. Md. Saidur 
Rahman, Prof. Mashuma Habib, Professor Mohammad Ayub Islam, and Professor 
Abdullah Al Mamun were present at the meeting.

Vice-chancellors were present at the meeting included Prof. Md. Faridul Islam 
of Rajshahi University, Prof. Mohammad Al-Forkan of Chittagong University, 
Prof. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan of Jahangirnagar University, Prof. Mohammad 
Siddiquur Rahman Khan of Bangladesh Open University, Prof. FM Siddiqui of 
Bangladesh Medical University, Prof. Ekramul Haque of Bangladesh University 
of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury of North 
South University, Prof. Syed Farhat Anwar of BRAC University, and Prof. 
Saiful Islam of American International University-Bangladesh.

Additionally, Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof. Abdus 
Salam, UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, and HEAT Project Director Prof. 
Asaduzzaman, among others, were also present at the event.
