DHAKA, June 06, 2026 (BSS)- Industries, Commerce, Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir has said access to quality products is a fundamental right of the people.
He urged the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) to carry out its responsibilities with greater diligence to safeguard the consumer rights.
Muktadir made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at the BSTI auditorium in the capital today on the occasion of World Metrology Day 2026, a PID handout said.
The minister said this year’s theme of World Metrology Day- Metrology: Building Trust in Policy Making- is highly timely and significant.
He noted that in today’s world, accurate measurement and reliable statistics are crucial for evidence-based and data-driven policy formulation, he said.
He further said that consumers must develop trust and confidence in BSTI when purchasing consumer goods.
Products approved by BSTI are not only marketed domestically but also enhance the reputation of Bangladeshi products abroad. He emphasized that BSTI must strengthen its capacity so that laboratory-tested products can achieve greater international acceptance.
The minister also stressed the need to strengthen relevant institutions, including BSTI to ensure food safety across the country and prevent the production, supply, and marketing of counterfeit and adulterated consumer goods.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to increasing field-level monitoring and ensuring strict enforcement of food safety laws.
He added that BSTI will be made more effective, modern, and capable by addressing manpower shortages and enhancing technological capacity.
