RAJSHAHI, May 31, 2026 (BSS) - Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu said Rajshahi College plays a vital role in spreading knowledge in the country.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 'Rajshahi College Alumnus and Meritorious Students Reception 2026' today, the minister noted that a nation or institution can never prosper without recognizing its accomplished individuals.
He urged meritorious students to use their talents globally and return to serve their motherland after reaching the peak of their success.
The colorful reception, jointly organized by Rajshahi College and the Rajshahi College HSC Alumni Association, took place at the college auditorium.
Presided over by Rajshahi College Principal Professor Dr. Md. Ibrahim Ali, the event was also addressed by Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton and and Rajshahi Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Md. Ershad Ali Isha.
Highlighting the historical significance of the college, Minister Minu said the institution has produced numerous eminent personalities and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman maintains a special focus on its development.
The minister pledged infrastructural upgrades for the college, including a new modern academic building and an auditorium.
He also announced plans to renovate and expand the Rani Hemanta Kumari Hindu Hostel to address housing shortages for female students, modernize the college playground and provide financial assistance to the Alumni Association fund.
Such events, he added, will inspire future students and strengthen ties between alumni and the current student body.
During the ceremony, 342 meritorious students who recently secured admission to various medical colleges, public universities, engineering universities, the Marine Academy and the BMA Long Course were accorded receptions.
Additionally, ten students received scholarships and the cover of Quack magazine, published by the Rajshahi College Science Club, was officially unveiled.
Representing the student body, Fatema Siddika (Dhaka Medical College), Hasinul Islam Srijon and Tasnia Tithi (BUET), and Rabbi (Dinajpur Medical College) shared their experiences.
Other speakers included Teachers' Council Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Rajshahi College HSC Alumni Association President Chowdhury Saidur Rahman Koel and General Secretary Dr. Tahmina Shamim Tasu.
The lively gathering brought together former and current students, celebrating the college's rich tradition and glorious contributions to education. Following the formal program, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton planted tree saplings on the campus in the presence of teachers and students.
