DHAKA, May 30, 2026 (BSS) - An emotional scene unfolded in the capital today as an elderly visually impaired woman, Nurjahan Begum, fulfilled her long-cherished dream of meeting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and speaking with him in person.
Nurjahan Begum, a resident of Bikrampur in Munshiganj, arrived at a food and clothing distribution programme in Shahjahanpur despite her advanced age and loss of eyesight.
Having lost both her husband and children, she now lives a lonely life, but carried with her a heartfelt wish she had nurtured for many years.
Her dream was to meet Tarique Rahman, the son of the proclaimer of Bangladesh's Independence Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, and exchange a few words with him.
Although she could no longer see, Nurjahan Begum said she could feel the Prime Minister's presence when she finally met him.
Witnesses said the elderly woman became emotional during the interaction and offered heartfelt prayers for the Prime Minister's well-being and success.
The meeting took place during a programme organised on the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, where Prime Minister Tarique Rahman distributed food and clothes among underprivileged people in Shahjahanpur.
The touching moment drew the attention of those present, many of whom were visibly moved as they watched Nurjahan Begum's long-awaited dream come true.
