DHAKA, May 30, 2026 (BSS) – BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has underscored the need for materializing the vision of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman through film.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a relief distribution programme organized by ‘Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Cholochitra Parishad at the gate of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of the proclaimer of the great independence Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Moyeen said Zia introduced the National Film Awards and government grants for films, established the Bangladesh Cinema and Television
Institute and the Bangladesh Film Archive, transformed Bangladesh Television (BTV) from black-and-white to color broadcasting, and modernized the BFDC.
He further stated that the greatest development of the country’s film industry has taken place when the BNP was in power.
Drawing on past experience, he said, the BNP government would once again work to develop the film sector.
BNP’s Cultural Affairs Secretary and Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Cholochitra Parishad chief adviser actor Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Uzzal addressed the programme as especial guest.
With Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Cholochitra Parishad president and film director Badiul Alam Khokon in the chair, the event was also addressed, among others, by its Secretary General and actor ABM Sohel Rashid, Organising Secretary, film producer, and director Monjurul Islam Megh, advisers Rafiqul Islam, Abu Hena Bablu, and Hannan Majumdar, Vice President and film director Mostafizur Rahman Babu, actress Rokeya Sultana Keya, actors Abir Chowdhury, Maruf Akib, Tanvir Tanu, and GM Saeed.
Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Uzzal said BFDC had been destroyed over the past 17 years during fascist rule.
While the BNP had contributed significantly to the development of the film industry, the fugitive fascist government had undermined those achievements and brought the industry to a state of decline, he added.
Uzzal said under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, efforts would be made to revive and develop the film industry with the participation of all stakeholders.
On the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, more than 500 people were provided with saris and lungis during the event.
