45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman observed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 30, 2026 (BSS) - The 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, proclaimer of the country's independence, one of the sector commanders of the Liberation War, founder of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and advocate of multi-party democracy, was observed in Rajshahi today with due respect and solemnity.

Marking the occasion, Rajshahi city BNP and its affiliated and associate bodies kept the national and party flags at half-mast and hoisted black flags at the party office in Malopara.

As part of the observance, the national flag and party flag were flown at half-mast while black flags were raised at 7:30 am. Leaders and activists also wore black badges.

Minister of Land Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, attended the programme as the chief guest. Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator and Rajshahi city BNP General Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman Riton was present as the special guest.

Among others, Rajshahi Zilla Parishad Administrator and former convener of city BNP, freedom fighter Advocate Ershad Ali Isha, attended the programme.

The event was presided over by Rajshahi city BNP President Mamun-or-Rashid Mamun. Senior Vice-President Nazrul Huda, Vice-Presidents Waliul Haque Rana, Muktar Hossain and Joynal Abedin Shibli, along with leaders and activists from various thanas, wards and affiliated organisations, were also present.

Addressing the programme, the speakers paid deep tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and highlighted his political ideals and contributions to nation-building and national development.

Special prayers and munajat were offered seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's parents, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

The speakers reiterated their commitment to upholding the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, and working unitedly under the leadership of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to build a prosperous, developed, humane and democratic Bangladesh.
