DHAKA, May 28, 2026 (BSS) – Industries, Commerce, and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir today made a surprise visit to the hide trading centre at Aminbazar in Dhaka to inspect the management of sacrificial animal hides during the Eid-ul-Azha.
The inspection was carried out to observe on the ground whether the collection, preservation and marketing activities of sacrificial animal hides were being conducted properly, said a press release.
Commerce Ministry Secretary (Routine Charge) Md Abdur Rahim Khan was present during the visit.
During the visit, the minister spoke with buyers and sellers of raw hides, traders and warehouse operators, and inquired about market conditions, prices, preservation systems and the overall management process.
Speaking on the occasion, Muktadir said the government is attaching highest priority to ensuring proper management of hides during the Eid-ul Azha.
Describing the leather industry as an important sector of the national economy, he urged all stakeholders concerned to perform their duties responsibly.
The minister also said the government remains vigilant to prevent any kind of mismanagement, syndication or wastage of hides, adding that regular monitoring activities at the field level would continue.
