THAKURGAON, May 27, 2027, (BSS)- LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said, agricultural land is should not be wasted for urbanization.
“Agricultural land is decreasing in Bangladesh, which is not good for the country. So we will try not to waste agricultural land unnecessarily,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said this while visiting today the proposed sites in a number of unions to establish a public university in Thakurgaon.
He said, the BNP government has started work for establishment of a university, medical college, engineering college, nursing college, EPZ, etc. in Thakurgaon.
The projects would be implemented without wasting agricultural land. So, the government is trying to acquiring fallow land in this purpose.
Fakhrul Islam gave his initial opinion to the proposal for 100 acres of land in Bhatarmari sugarcane mills of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila for the university.
The LGRD minister said, "I have always said that we will not destroy agricultural land as much as we can.”
He cited the examples of various renowned universities in the world and said, "We can learn from the example of how these institutions are developing vertically in the modern world."
At this time, the minister also said that any irregularities or corruption in the government's development work will be strictly opposed and implemented through the appropriate authorities and decisions in accordance with the appropriate laws and rules.
Thakurgaon University's newly appointed Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Israfil Shaheen and district administration officials, District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poygam Ali and officials from various government departments were present.
Later, Mirza Fakhrul visited several other development work sites in the district.
