President to offer Eid-ul-Azha prayers at National Eidgah

DHAKA, May 25, 2026 (BSS) - President Mohammed Shahabuddin will offer Eid-ul-Azha prayers along with hundreds of devotees from all walks of life at the National Eidgah adjacent to the High Court premises on Eid day, slated for May 28.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is also scheduled to offer prayers at the main Eid congregation there at 7:30 am.

"The main Eid jamaat will be held at the National Eidgah ground at 7:30 am on Eid day . . . the head of the state will offer prayers there and join the munajat," the President's Press Wing said today.

The Chief Justice of Bangladesh, members of the cabinet, judges of the Supreme Court, lawmakers, senior political leaders, diplomats and high-ranking civil and military officials, among other distinguished personalities, are also expected to join the prayers.

An official of the Islamic Foundation said Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek is scheduled to lead the Eid prayers.

A special munajat seeking divine blessings for peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh, and the welfare of its people and the Muslim Ummah, will be offered after the prayers.

Following the prayers, the President will exchange Eid greetings with devotees at the Eidgah.

The Eid congregation will be held under the supervision of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). Special arrangements have also been made for women devotees at the National Eidgah.

Meanwhile, security measures have been strengthened in and around the Eidgah premises.

DSCC Administrator Valiant Freedom Fighter Md Abdus Salam said if adverse weather conditions prevent holding prayers at the National Eidgah ground, the main jamaat will be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 8:00 am.

Bangabhaban sources said on his arrival at the National Eidgah, the President will be received by the Chief Justice, members of the cabinet, DSCC administrator, DSCC chief executive officer, divisional commissioner, registrar general of the Supreme Court and director general of the Islamic Foundation.
