MYMENSINGH, May 22, 2026 (BSS) – Trishal, the memory-rich town of National Poet, is wearing a festive look ahead of the arrival of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who will attend the opening ceremony of the 127th birth anniversary programme of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam tomorrow.
The historic place has already been fully prepared for the national programme, while a celebratory atmosphere now prevails across the district.
Local administration and political organisations have jointly completed extensive preparations, turning Trishal into a vibrant venue for the high-profile event.
Major roads and key locations, including Dharirampur, Kazir Shimla, Government Nazrul Academy field and areas surrounding, have been decorated with banners, festoons, lights and arches.
Sources said the national celebration of Nazrul’s birth anniversary is being held in Trishal after an 18-year gap, creating widespread enthusiasm among cultural activists and local residents.
Security has been tightened across the area, with law enforcement agencies increasing surveillance at key points to ensure smooth conduct of the national programme.
Alongside official preparations, cultural organisations and educational institutions are arranging poetry recitations, Nazrul Sangeet performances, discussion sessions and other cultural activities.
Students from different institutions are also taking part in preparatory programmes.
Officials said the Prime Minister was earlier scheduled to attend the main programme on May 25, but the schedule was revised ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha travel rush.
The premier will now inaugurate the three-day programme tomorrow (May 23).
Mymensingh-7 (Trishal) constituency lawmaker Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Liton played a key role in bringing back the national-level celebration to Trishal after a long gap.
Former Trishal Union Parishad chairman Jahid Amin said the visit has created a festive atmosphere across the area, boosting local enthusiasm and economic activity.
