KHULNA, May 22, 2026 (BSS) - Whip of the National Parliament Rakibul Islam Bakul today underscored the importance of science education and research, saying there is no alternative to scientific learning to remain advanced in knowledge, intellect and innovation in the modern world.
"Rapid advancements in science and technology are making lifestyles across the globe more modern and enriched. Science education and research are crucial for expanding knowledge, intelligence and innovative capabilities," he said.
He also emphasised the need to use mobile phones not only for communication and entertainment but also as effective tools for nation-building.

The whip was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a three-day science fair organised on the occasion of the 47th National Science and Technology Week at the auditorium of the divisional commissioner's office in Khulna.
The divisional-level fair was arranged to promote science education, raise awareness and popularise science and technology among people, especially the younger generation.
Bakul said children and adolescents must be protected from the misuse of mobile phones and the harmful effects of drugs, and encouraged to grow into science-minded, ethical and responsible citizens.
"A nation affected by drug addiction and distorted thinking can never build a smart and developed country," he said.
He added that the government is working to establish a knowledge-based society where educated, skilled and research-oriented citizens will lead the country toward progress.

Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun chaired the function. Additional Divisional Commissioner (Education and ICT) Sifat Mehnaz delivered the welcome address.
Among others, Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque, Additional Police Commissioner Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan and Deputy Commissioner Mst Hure Jannat spoke as special guests.
