Anindya announces bridge construction to ease traffic congestion in Jessore

DHAKA, May 22, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit today announced plans to construct a new bridge in Jessore city to ease traffic congestion and reduce waterlogging.

"Alongside developing Jessore into a safe city free from drugs, terrorism and extortion, a new bridge would be constructed from Hazrat Garib Shah's Mazar to Ghop Nawapara Road, while the existing Kathherpul Bridge would be widened to achieve the goal," he said.

The state minister made the announcement while inaugurating road, drain and streetlight installation works worth around Tk 110 million in Wards No. 6 and 9 of Jessore Municipality this afternoon.

"So, I have a deep sense of responsibility towards my voters. Development works are being accelerated to restore comfort in the movement of municipal residents," Anindya said.

He said coordinated efforts are underway to reduce the sufferings caused by waterlogging in the city by at least 50 percent before the next monsoon season.

The state minister also called upon all to build a social movement against drugs and terrorism.

Jessore Municipality Administrator Rafiqul Hasan presided over the inauguration ceremony.

Among others, President of District BNP and PP Adv. Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, General Secretary of District BNP and District Council Administrator Delwar Hossain Khokon, and Assistant Engineer of Jessore Municipality Mokhlesur Rahman were present at the event.
