DHAKA, May 22, 2026 (BSS) - Rainfall is likely to continue over different parts of the country during the next five days, particularly in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, while a mild heat wave may persist in parts of the southwest, according to a 120-hour forecast issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
A trough of low pressure currently lies over West Bengal to the North Bay, influencing the prevailing weather pattern over Bangladesh.
For the next 24 hours from 9am today, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning flashes are likely at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, and at one or two places over Khulna and Barishal divisions, said a BMD bulletin.
Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur at places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions.
A mild heat wave sweeping over Khulna, Jashore, Satkhira and Bagerhat districts may continue during this period.
Day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged, while night temperatures may rise slightly across the country.
In Dhaka, the sun will set at 6:37pm today and rise at 5:13am tomorrow.
Country's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded 36.8 degrees Celsius at Koyra in Khulna division and minimum temperature today was 23.5 degrees Celsius at Rangpur.
On May 23, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning flashes are likely at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.
One or two places over Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions may also experience rainfall, with moderately heavy to heavy falls likely at places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
On May 24, similar weather conditions are likely to prevail with light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.
Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may occur at places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Day temperatures may rise slightly, while night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged across the country.
On the fourth day, rainfall activity may decrease slightly, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers likely at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places elsewhere in the country.
Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may still occur at isolated places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, while both day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.
By May 26, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions, while weather may remain mainly dry elsewhere over the country.
Both day and night temperatures may rise slightly during this period.
