DHAKA, May 21,2026 (BSS) – Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Minister Aminur Rashid today said emphasized proper preservation and management of hide and other by products of the sacrificial animals can play an important contribution to the economy of the country.
“ In most of the cases, the hide of the sacrificial animals usually donated to the madrashas, and its proper preservation and management would increase the quality of the skin and widen the scope of foreign currency earning through leather export”, he said.
The minister made this remark as the chief guest while addressing at a workshop held at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh(KIB) at Farmgate in the city.
He said a huge number of people involved with animal slaughtering, skinning animals, meat processing and distribution, so, there is no alternative to prepare trained manpower for this purpose.
Particularly, in absence of trained manpower for a sensitive job like skinning would cause damage the quality of leather and also decline the market price of the leather (Hide).
He emphasized building of skilled manpower through imparting training of the Madrasa students and other youths during the period of Eid-ul Azha as it will create earning opportunity of the students and also improve the quality of the leather collecting during the occasion.
Regarding raising awareness on purchasing smuggled animals for the protection of the local cattle farmers and the national interest, he said Bangladesh is now self sufficient in livestock production and local production is substantial to fulfill the local demand during the festival.
Praising the role of veterinary medical team, livestock department officials and other concerned, the minister said it is praiseworthy that these people are actively participating for safety of the sacrificial animal health and marketing management across the country.
Director General of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) M Shahjaman Khan chaired the function.
