DHAKA, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 today
framed charges in a crimes against humanity case against former lawmaker Abul
Hasnat Abdullah and three others filed over the extrajudicial killings of two
leaders of Chhatra Dal and JASAS in Barishal.
The second tribunal passed the order today, setting June 17 for prosecution's
opening statement and starting recording the deposition of the witnesses.
The other accused in the case are former superintendent of police AKM
Ehsanullah, former assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) Md Mahabul Islam and Md
Jasim Uddin. Of the four [including Abdullah], Mahabul and Jasim have been
arrested and are in jail now.
According to the case documents, Abul Hasnat Abdullah allegedly planned and
conspired to kill Tipu Hawlader, then joint general secretary of Agailjhara
upazila unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, and Kabir Molla, organising
secretary of JASAS of the same upazila, after failing to politically counter
them.
The prosecution alleged that Hasnat Abdullah, along with Ehsanullah,
instructed subordinate police members to shoot dead Tipu Hawlader and Kabir
Molla on the west side of the big bridge on the Agailjhara Bypass road of the
Gouranadi-Gopalganj highway on the night of February 21, 2015. Tipu and Kabir
were killed in this way.
