DHAKA, May 19, 2026 (BSS)- Country’s 13th city corporation, Bogura City Corporation (BCC), has formally begun its journey after a long wait of 20 years with the appointment of a new administrator today.
The official process was completed today through the appointment of the administrator, while the newly formed city corporation is set to begin its official activities from tomorrow replacing the dissolved municipality.
Vice-President of Bogura district BNP M R Islam Swadhin has been appointed as the first full-time administrator of the newly formed Bogura City Corporation.
According to a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on May 18, M R Islam Swadhin will serve as the full-time administrator of Bogura City Corporation until the next elected corporation is formed or until further instructions are issued.
He will exercise all powers and perform all duties of the mayor and receive allowances as per rules, the gazette reads.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, while briefing journalists at his office in the ministry today, said the upgradation from municipality to city corporation would significantly improve the standard of civic services in the region.
He said the institution would now be able to formulate its own DPPs and undertake large independent projects.
Under the City Corporation Act, projects including roads, bridges, culverts, overpasses, elevated bridges and flyovers could now be implemented there.
To ensure safe drinking water for the residents of Bogura, the process of forming a separate WASA has already begun there, he said.
Alongside this, initiatives would also be taken to establish a “Bogura Development Authority” following the model of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK)and Chattogram Development Authority.
