DHAKA, May 18, 2026 (BSS) - Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged Singapore to invest in Bangladesh's promising sectors, saying the country has emerged as a highly potential destination for foreign investment.
"There are vast opportunities for foreign investment in infrastructure, PPP, transport and technology sectors," he said when Singapore's Non-Resident High Commissioner Derek Loh paid a courtesy call on him at the secretariat here.
The minister said Bangladesh is facing various challenges in development and modernisation, but the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is taking effective initiatives in different sectors to sustain economic progress.
During the meeting, both sides stressed strengthening bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Singapore, particularly in investment, healthcare, technology transfer, waste management and rural development.
Mirza Fakhrul said Singapore's experience and technological expertise could further accelerate Bangladesh's development activities.
Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Shaukat Rashid Chowdhury and senior ministry officials were present at the meeting.
