DHAKA, May 18, 2026 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain today visited injured physician Dr Nasir Uddin at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

During the visit, the minister inquired about the health condition of Dr Nasir, who was attacked while on duty at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, and spoke with his family members.

Sakhawat said such barbaric attacks on doctors while performing their duties are unacceptable under any circumstances. Strict action would be taken against those involved in the attack, he warned.

The minister also urged the relevant physicians to ensure the better treatment of Dr Nasir.

It is mentionable that on the night of May 15, Dr. Nasir Islam, the duty doctor at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, came under a sudden attack following the death of a patient from a heart attack. 

He was critically injured in the incident and was later admitted to the ICU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
