ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - Professor Dr A K M Motinur
Rahman of the Department of Public Administration has been appointed as the
new Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia. A notification
issued by The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of
Education has confirmed the appointment on Wednesday.
According to the notification, the appointment was made under Section 10(1)
of the Islamic University Act, 1980, with the approval of the President, who
is also the Chancellor of the university.
As per the terms of the appointment, Prof Motinur Rahman will serve as Vice-
Chancellor for a four-year term from the date of joining.
During his tenure, he will receive salary, allowances and other benefits
equivalent to those of his current position. He will also reside on the
campus full-time as the chief executive officer of the university.
The notification said the President and Chancellor may cancel the appointment
at any time if necessary.
Prof Motinur Rahman previously served in different academic and
administrative roles at the university and is regarded by students and
colleagues as an experienced academic.
He completed his Honours and Master's degrees from the Department of
Political Science at the University of Dhaka, followed by an M.A. in
International Relations from the University of New South Wales in Australia,
and a PhD under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Islamic
University, Bangladesh.
Prior to his appointment as Vice Chancellor, he served with distinction in
several key administrative roles at the university, including Press
Administrator, Hall Provost, Proctor, Departmental Chairman, and Dean of the
Faculty of Social Sciences.
In his political life, he is widely known as a BNP-aligned academic. He
currently serves as Senior Vice President of the University Teachers
Association of Bangladesh (UTAB), an organization affiliated with the
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and as Convener of the Islamic University
Shada Dal.
