Govt to provide admission assistance to financially insolvent secondary students

DHAKA, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - The government has launched an admission assistance programme for financially insolvent meritorious students studying at government and non-government secondary and equivalent educational institutions across the country.

The Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust has undertaken the initiative to provide admission support to financially disadvantaged meritorious students who have been admitted to and are currently studying at secondary-level institutions.

Online applications for the assistance programme began today and students will be able to apply until June 14, according to a notice issued by the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust published on the website of the Ministry of Education.

The notice said financially insolvent meritorious students can submit applications online from 9:00 am on May 14 until 11:59 pm on June 14 through the designated link.

Under the admission assistance guidelines, students must fulfill several conditions. As part of the academic eligibility criteria, applicants must secure at least 60 percent marks in the previous class or a GPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale. The annual income of the father, mother, or guardian must be Taka 300,000 or below.

The notice said applicants must upload clear copies of the student's birth registration certificate, national identity cards of parents, photographs, and online bank account information. In the case of orphan students, students with disabilities, students or guardians suffering from incurable diseases, children of financially insolvent freedom fighters, and children of government employees in the 20th grade, relevant certificates must also be uploaded.

It further said that children from extremely poor families must submit a recommendation certificate from the chairman of the Union Parishad or a ward councilor of the city corporation.

As the entire process is online-based, there is no need to send any hard copies either by post or directly.
