No extortion at cattle markets, transport: Tuku

TANGAIL, May 8, 2026 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku today said authorities are alert to prevent extortion at cattle markets and livestock transport ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the final match of Notun Kuri Sports at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Tangail this afternoon.

Tuku said necessary measures have already been taken to ensure smooth and corruption-free management of cattle markets.

He said the country has adequate livestock supply to meet Eid demand, adding that there is no need to import sacrificial animals from abroad this year.

The state minister further said veterinary doctors will be deployed at all cattle markets to ensure proper animal health services and market management.

He also said strict monitoring has been strengthened to prevent illegal entry of cattle, with law enforcement agencies and border authorities kept on alert.

Local administration officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Sonjoy Kumar Mohanta and Tangail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shaheen Mia, were present at the programme.
