DHAKA, May 6, 2026 (BSS) - The government has declared several rural areas under Shibganj upazila of Bogura district as urban areas.

The decision was issued in a notification of the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives today, which was later published in the Bangladesh Gazette.

According to the notification, the government has expressed its intention, under Section 3(1) of the Municipalities Act, 2009, to declare specific mauzas of several unions under Shibganj upazila as urban areas.

As per the schedule, the areas include specified parts of West Jahangirabad (JL No. 70), Jahangirabad (JL No. 71), Chandnia Shibganj (JL No. 154), Uthli (JL No. 156), Narayanpur (JL No. 157), and Sannyasi Dhondakola (JL No. 161) mauzas under Shibganj Union.

It also includes R.S. plots 7001 to 7421 of Natmorichai (JL No. 72) mauza under Bihar Union, and specific plots of Achlai (JL No. 214) mauza under Raynagar Union.

The notification further stated that, as per the Municipalities Act, concerned Union Parishads may submit written objections to the government within one month of the publication of the gazette. The government will dispose of such objections within the following three months.

With the issuance of the notification, an earlier SRO issued on March 24, 2026 (SRO No. 73-Law/2026) has been repealed.
