DHAKA, May 05, 2026 (BSS)– Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro today paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam at his office in the Armed Forces Division at Dhaka Cantonment.

The Italian envoy led a four-member delegation during the meeting, said a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged greetings and held fruitful discussions on the prospects of strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Italy, particularly in the field of defence cooperation.

The release said both sides emphasized deepening and further expanding the existing friendly relations between the two countries.

“Discussions were also held on expanding cooperation in the defence sector through training, capacity building and exchange of experiences,” it added.

They also exchanged views on enhancing mutual cooperation in the context of regional and global security.

Both the sides underscored the importance of further strengthening mutual trust, cooperation and strategic relations, the ISPR added.
