DHAKA, April 30, 2026 (BSS) – The United States has donated 600,000 tuberculosis (TB) testing kits and 11,000 courses of paediatric TB drugs to Bangladesh, aiming to address critical shortages and strengthen bilateral health cooperation.

U.S. Ambassador Brent T. Christensen handed over the assistance at a ceremony held at a leading tuberculosis hospital in the capital, said US embassy here today.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md  Shakhawat Husain  Bokul and Director General of Health Services Prof. Dr. Pravath Chandra Biswas, among others, attended the event.

The donation includes U.S.-manufactured GeneXpert tuberculosis testing kits and paediatric drug courses intended to enhance Bangladesh’s capacity to diagnose and treat tuberculosis, particularly among children.

The support comes amid supply constraints and reflects Washington’s continued commitment to global health security, officials said.

The initiative is part of the U.S. government’s new five-year framework aimed at expanding bilateral health partnerships and strengthening disease prevention and response systems worldwide.
