Chinese Envoy meets PM’s Adviser Mahdi Amin

DHAKA, April 29, 2026 (BSS)- The Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen today paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister's Adviser and Spokesperson Mahdi Amin at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon.

Detailed discussions were held on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as on education, human resource development, and multidimensional development prospects during the meeting, according to a press release.

Ambassador Yao Wen said, "The relationship between China and Bangladesh is longstanding and robust." He particularly recalled that during the tenure of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia, the friendly relations between the two countries reached a unique height.

The Ambassador further said that China considers Bangladesh a highly promising destination for investment. Besides discussing the feasibility of establishing a 'Chinese Economic Zone’ (EZ) in Bangladesh, he expressed interest in working jointly in high-tech industries, solar power, ICT, electric vehicles, manufacturing, and the agricultural sector.

The Ambassador specifically mentioned that China is fully prepared to increase economic investment in Bangladesh, particularly in the textile and electronic devices sectors.

The meeting placed significant importance on improving and modernizing the quality of Bangladesh's education sector.

Yao Wen said, “China is interested in working on curriculum development for Bangladeshi educational institutions, enhancing teachers' skills, and expanding technical and vocational education.”

The Chinese Ambassador promised to further increase the number of scholarships for talented Bangladeshi students.

He also pledged China's support for Bangladesh in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the meeting, both sides agreed to work jointly on projects such as introducing electric buses (e-buses) to ensure an environment friendly transportation system and developing the solar power and ICT sectors.

Prime Minister's Adviser Mahdi Amin emphasized further strengthening the existing friendly relations between the two countries. He also praised China's continued cooperation in Bangladesh's development journey.
