DHAKA, April 27, 2026 (BSS) - The 'Expansion and Modernization of the Central Drug Addiction Treatment Centre' project has achieved 65 percent physical progress and 43.76 percent financial completion, officials said.

The progress was discussed at a recent Project Implementation Committee (PIC) meeting held at the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) headquarters here with DNC Director General (DG) Md Hasan Maruf in the chair.

According to the Project Director, the total estimated cost of the project is over Taka 162 crore, of which over Taka 70.57 crore has already been spent.

The Revised Annual Development Programme (RADP) allocation for the current fiscal year stands at Taka 38 crore.

Additional Director General (Joint Secretary) Mohammad Golam Azam told BSS that significant progress has been made in constructing the 13-storey Central Drug Addiction Treatment Centre.

Deputy Director (Operations) Mukul Jyoti Chakma said that upon completion, the facility will be upgraded from a 100-bed to a 250-bed modern treatment facility of international standard at Tejgaon Industrial Area in Dhaka.

He added that the expanded centre will provide advanced treatment services for people with drug addiction and ensure better patient management compared to the current capacity.

Officials said that roof casting, brickwork, and plastering of the top floor have been completed, while exterior finishing work is ongoing.

The administrative building is nearing completion, with bathroom tiling finished, floor tiling at 90 percent and door frame installation at 80 percent, bringing its overall construction progress to around 85 percent.

Work on the extension of the drug rehabilitation centre has also advanced, with roof casting and plastering of the sixth floor completed.

However, renovation of the existing five-storey building is yet to begin, as it depends on the relocation of the treatment centre and metro office, which is currently 37 percent completed.

All civil work packages under the project have already been awarded. Materials for HVAC and ventilation systems have arrived at the site, and the procurement process for lifts has been completed, with installation expected soon after arrival.

Officials said efforts are underway to quickly complete the finishing work of the administrative building to facilitate relocation and enable the next phase of renovation.

Coordination with the Department of Architecture is being maintained to ensure quality standards.

The project's time extension has already been approved, and authorities are now awaiting an administrative order from the Ministry of Home Affairs to release funds and clear pending contractor payments.

The meeting emphasized timely completion of the project, approval of the Revised Development Project Proposal (RDPP), and strengthened coordination among relevant agencies to ensure smooth implementation of the remaining work.
