KHULNA, April 24, 2026 (BSS) - A three-day national mechanical festival titled 'Ignition-2026' has begun at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology in a festive atmosphere, aiming to inspire young engineers under the theme "Ignite Your Potential."

Organised by the university's Mechanical Engineering Department, the festival commenced on Thursday and was formally inaugurated on Friday at the Student Welfare Center on the campus.

KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Masud inaugurated the event as the chief guest, while festival convener Prof Dr Mohammad Iliyas Inam, co-convener Prof Dr Mohammad Sultan Mahmud, Director (Student Welfare) Prof Dr Md Hasan Ali, along with teachers and students from different universities across the country, were present.

Addressing the ceremony, the VC said mechanical engineering forms a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and innovation in today's technology-driven world.

He noted that the theme "Ignite Your Potential" is timely and will encourage young engineers to explore their abilities and engage in innovative activities.

He added that such initiatives help students gain practical knowledge, develop teamwork and build effective links with the industrial sector.

Highlighting KUET's focus on research and innovation-based education, he expressed hope that the festival would serve as a platform for knowledge-sharing, creativity and healthy competition among students.

Around 1,000 students from 22 universities across the country are taking part in the festival, which will continue until April 25.

A total prize pool of about Taka 6 lakh has been announced, generating enthusiasm among participants.

Competitions include line follower robot, soccer bot, business case study, ad-making, CAD contest, project showcasing, poster presentation, three-minute thesis, mechanics Olympiad, automobile Olympiad, content writing and gaming contest.

The organisers said the initiative aims to nurture the hidden talents of young engineers and enhance their innovative capabilities to face modern challenges.

Winners will be awarded prizes at the closing ceremony on April 25, with organisers hoping the festival will serve as a lasting source of inspiration for engineering students across the country.
