Nitai opens Archaeological Museum in Agargaon

DHAKA, April 23, 2026 (BSS) - Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today inaugurated the newly established 'Archaeological Museum' at the headquarters of the Department of Archaeology in Agargaon in the capital. 

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, he said the museum would play a unique role in upholding the country's rich history and heritage to the present generation. 

He noted that invaluable artefacts from Bangladesh's prehistoric era to the Sultanate and Mughal periods are being carefully displayed at the museum, reflecting the nation's cultural pride.

Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaniz Moula attended the event as special guest with
Sabina Alam, Director General (Additional Secretary) of the Department of Archaeology, in the chair. 

The minister viewed important archaeological objects collected from different parts of the country, including Mahasthangarh, Paharpur, and Wari-Bateshwar. 

The exhibition features pottery, metal vessels, seals and sealings, and terracotta balls dating from the third century BCE to the 12th century CE. 

It also includes rare historical artefacts such as a Vishnu statue from the 10th-11th century and a Tara statue from the 8th-9th century, now open for visitors. 

After the inauguration, he held a special exchange meeting with officials and staff at the department's conference room.

At the meeting, the minister emphasized increasing the dynamism of the department's activities and urged all concerned to work more dedicatedly in preserving and researching the country's archaeological heritage. 

Senior officials of the ministry and officers from various levels of the Department of Archaeology were present at Kaniz Moula.
