KHULNA, April 18, 2026 (BSS) – State Minister for Environment, Forest and climate change Dr Sheikh Faridul Islam on Friday has said initiatives will be taken to solve the dormitory problem to ensure financial pressure and free from security risk of the students.
The state minister listened to all issues of Khulna University students (KU) with interest and assured to present the matter to the concerned government stakeholders.
He also expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and beautiful environment and conducive environment for education maintained at this southern campus.
The state minister made the remarks during exchanges of views with the Khulna University Journalists Association (KHUBISAS) at the KU cafeteria.
During the meeting, the Journalist leaders of the association highlighted various important issues including the housing crisis at the university. They said that the housing crisis at KU has now reached an extreme level.
The country’s education system has been severely affected by the global Covid-19 pandemic, the impact of which is clearly visible in this university in the southern region.
The leaders also mentioned that while previously about 7,000 students studied and about 31 percent of them received housing facilities, in the post-pandemic period, multiple batches of students were admitted at short intervals to compensate for academic losses.
Among others, president of KHUBISAS Al-Kamin Romin and General Secretary Mirazul islam spoke.
Earlier, the state minister joined the inaugural session of a two-day international conference titled “Soil, water and environmental resilience in the Coastal Zone of Bangladesh under a Changing Climate” at Khulna University.
