DHAKA, April 15, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said the reintroduction of the primary scholarship examination has brought great joy to both students and their guardians.
He said that the government’s primary objective is to encourage students to attend school and pursue education through initiatives such as scholarships. There are plans to expand these activities on a larger scale in the future, he added.
He made the remarks while talking to journalists this morning after visiting the Primary Scholarship Examination center at Motijheel Government Primary School in the capital.
Earlier, the State Minister visited another examination center at Motijheel Ideal Government Primary School.
He noted that the main purpose of the visit was to ensure that students are able to take their exams smoothly with all necessary facilities in place.
“We have observed that the school authorities have made all required arrangements for the students. I personally visited two centers today. Through district and upazila-level education officers, updates from across the country are being monitored, and so far all reports have been positive,” he said.
He also mentioned that although some student absence was observed, measures would be taken to ensure student’s attendance in future.
“Various initiatives will be introduced to motivate both students and guardians. Existing programs will also continue. We have spoken with guardians, and they have some expectations which the government will try to address through discussions,” he added.
The state minister further said that the government is considering revisions to the policy framework of the primary scholarship program, including the amount of scholarship funds and the number of beneficiaries.
New criteria may also be introduced for both public and private sector students to enhance motivation among students and guardians, he said.
The state minister also highlighted the government’s plan to raise the literacy rate to 96 percent. To achieve this target, alongside primary education, non-formal education systems will also be strengthened, he added.
