DHAKA, April 14, 2026 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain today said the incumbent government is determined to make Bangladesh suitable for children.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting organised by Bangladesh Shishu Academy on its premises here, marking the Bengali New Year 1433.
The minister said when Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the proclaimer of Bangladesh's independence, assumed responsibility for running the country, he realised that children needed to be given proper patronage to face future challenges.
For that purpose, he said, President Ziaur Rahman established Bangladesh Shishu Academy and Shishu Park.
Due to the visionary leadership of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the presence of the Shishu Academy had expanded up to the district level.
But, he said, later Shishu Academy did not receive proper patronage for children's development due to various reasons.
Zahid Hossain said the incumbent government is very committed to ensuring the rights of children.
The government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is working best to develop children in every district and up to the upazila level, to flourish the children's thoughts along with ensuring education, and to make children competent future leaders.
Chairing the program, Women and Children Affairs Secretary Yasmeen Parveen said children's participation in the programmes organised by Shishu Academy will serve as an important medium for sowing the seeds of national and cultural values ??among the future generations.
She called upon all to work together for the creative development of children.
Bangladesh Shishu Academy Director General Arju Ara Begum delivered the welcome speech at the event.
Among others, Dr Sharifa Karim Swarna, wife of the minister, and senior officials of the ministry and different departments were present.
