MYMENSINGH, April 12, 2026 (BSS) - A comprehensive measles vaccination campaign was launched today in Mymensingh City Corporation to prevent potential outbreaks of the disease among children.
City Corporation Administrator Roknuzzaman Sarkar inaugurated the program at the Nagar Bhaban premises this morning.
Mymensingh Division Health Director Dr. Pradeep Kumar Saha, City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Sumana Al Majid and other concerned officials were present.
According to City Corporation Health Officer Dr. H.K. Debnath, a total of 58,668 children within the city corporation area will receive measles vaccines across 70 designated centers.
Beyond the city limits, an additional 165,750 children are being vaccinated in Mymensingh Sadar, Trishal, and Phulpur upazilas.
Speaking at the event, the city administrator emphasized the importance of public awareness and vaccination, saying that these are the most effective measures to prevent measles.
Health experts also stressed the need for increased awareness alongside immunization efforts and advised guardians to seek immediate medical care at nearby hospitals if measles symptoms appear, rather than managing the illness at home.
The campaign reflects the government's continued commitment to protecting public health and preventing the spread of infectious diseases.
