DHAKA, April 11, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) Mir Shahe Alam has called for effective initiatives to ensure the development activities reach the grassroots level.
He made the call today while addressing a views exchange meeting with heads of departments and agencies, as well as project directors under the Rural Development and Co-operatives Division, held at the conference room of the Local Government Division in Dhaka today.
During the meeting, progress and challenges of ongoing projects under different agencies were presented.
Based on the discussions, the State Minister provided necessary directives to make project implementation more dynamic, effective, and timely.
Alam also emphasized the importance of coordinated project planning among departments and urged government officials to be more proactive.
The State Minister said that positive changes in mindset and work processes are essential to ensure people’s development.
He stressed the need to revive the past glory and tradition of the Rural Development and Co-operatives Division by taking effective initiatives at the grassroots level and strengthening human resource development projects.
Alam also instructed to resolve legal complexities and expedite recruitment to vacant positions to accelerate project implementation.
Highlighting employment generation as a priority, he said development projects must create more job opportunities.
Alam also emphasized taking integrated initiatives to boost agricultural production, including increasing sunflower and mustard cultivation to produce edible oil locally and reduce import dependency.
Focusing on third-language education, youth skill development, and employment generation, he noted that such initiatives would equip young people with modern skills and open new avenues for employment.
He also directed the relevant authorities to promptly reopen all closed plants.
The meeting was chaired by Secretary of the Rural Development and Co-operatives Division, Mohammad Showkat Rashid Chowdhury, and attended by senior officials of the ministry and stakeholders of various ongoing projects.
