DMP issues traffic advisory around Bangabhaban over Independence Day tomorrow

DHAKA, March 25, 2026 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today announced comprehensive traffic restrictions and diversions in the vicinity of Bangabhaban for tomorrow to facilitate the smooth execution of national programmes marking Independence and National Day 2026.

According to a public notice signed by Acting DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar, these special arrangements are designed to ensure the secure movement of vehicles during the Independence and National Day reception hosted by the President for high-level dignitaries.

The reception is scheduled to be held at Bangabhaban tomorrow from 4pm to 5:30pm. The event is expected to be attended by the Prime Minister, members of the Cabinet, esteemed diplomats, high-ranking government officials, and leaders of various organizations.

During the event window, except for vehicles carrying invited guests with valid stickers, all general traffic will be prohibited on the road segments including Abrar Fahad Avenue (from Noor Hossain Square (Zero Point) to Gulistan Square), DIT Road (from Gulistan Square to RAJUK crossing), the stretch from Dainik Bangla crossing to RAJUK crossing, Fazle Rabbi Road (from Shaheed Matiur Rahman Park area to Joykali Temple crossing) and internal link roads in the Dilkusha area, including routes near Metlife, Pubali Bank, and City Center.

The DMP traffic diversions will be enforced starting from 2pm and will remain in effect until 5:30pm. During this time, vehicles will be redirected at the eastern sides of Noor Hossain Square (Zero Point), the RAJUK Crossing, and the Metlife Gap. Further diversions will occur at the western side of the Joykali Temple crossing and the southern sides of both the Dainik Bangla crossing and the Motijheel City Center. Additionally, traffic will be affected at the Mayor Hanif Flyover on the left side of the outgoing exit adjacent to the park.

Commuters arriving from Abdul Gani Road, Fulbaria, Golap Shah Mazar, and those utilizing the Mayor Hanif Flyover are advised to use alternative routes to reach their destinations.

The DMP has recommended several routes and crossings for travel, including the UBL Crossing, Shapla Chattar, Nightingale Crossing, Rajmoni, High Court, and Tantibazar.

The invited guest entry and parking protocol is managed through a strictly enforced color-coded sticker system to regulate access to Bangabhaban. Guests assigned red stickers are required to enter through the main gate and park in designated fields or open spaces inside the premises.

Those with green stickers must use gate 3 (PGR) for entry, with parking permitted on Fazle Rabbi Road and the Bangabhaban School field. Guests holding triangle stickers are directed to enter via gate 2 (the Workshop) and utilize parking in the Dilkusha Commercial Area.

Additionally, VIP security vehicles must park in an orderly row along the road between the RAJUK and Dainik Bangla crossings, while dedicated parking for media and press vehicles has been established in the Motijheel Commercial Area.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has sought full cooperation of citizens to ensure that this national event of great importance is conducted successfully.

The DMP formally expressed its regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to the public and urged all commuters to follow the provided traffic directives for the duration of the programme.
