DHAKA, March 24, 2026 (BSS) - An inter-ministerial committee formed to ensure cleanliness and a hygienic environment in all educational institutions across urban and rural areas of the country held a meeting today.
State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam chaired the meeting at the conference room of the Local Government Division.
The meeting emphasized taking a number of effective initiatives to improve environmental standards in educational institutions and to support the physical and mental development of students.
These include organizing group-based cleaning activities on school premises every Thursday, regular tree plantation, and ensuring routine cleaning of nearby markets if they are set up in or around school grounds, under the initiative of local representatives from union parishads or municipalities.
Discussions were also held on keeping school ground open for students in the afternoon to encourage recreational activities, and organizing inter-union sports competitions to promote healthy development among students.
The meeting further stressed strengthening coordination among all relevant agencies to ensure a hygienic environment in educational institutions.
It was noted that a six-member inter-ministerial committee has been formed following directives from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Mir Shahe Alam is serving as the convener of the committee, while Secretary of the Local Government Division Md Md. Shahidul Hassan as member secretary.
Other members include Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleque, Health Services Division Secretary Md Quamruzzaman Chowdhury, Technical and Madrasah Education Division Secretary Muhammad Rafiqul Islam and Primary and Mass Education Ministry Secretary Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana.
