DHAKA, March 24, 2026 (BSS) - Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today announced a special 180-day priority programme with the aim of modernizing and ensuring inclusive development of the education sector.

Under the initiative, the minister directed the implementation of a set of measures, including ensuring free university-level education for the children of those martyred and injured in the “July Uprising.”

He issued the directives during a post-Eid meeting with officials and employees of the Education Ministry held at the ministry conference room on the first working day after Eid-ul-Fitr.

Senior officials from the Secondary and Higher Education Division, the Technical and Madrasah Education Division, and the Primary and Mass Education Division were present at the meeting.

The minister discussed in detail the 180-day programme, the education sector development strategy for the 2026–2027 fiscal year, and the five-year development plan, in line with the electoral manifesto of the BNP and goals of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Emphasizing swift implementation of electoral commitments, Milon said initiatives such as “One Teacher, One Tab,” multimedia classrooms, compulsory third-language education, technical education for all, and the “One Child, One Tree” programme would be implemented to ensure modernization and inclusive development of education.

He stressed providing free school uniforms and shoes (keds), student loan facilities for higher education abroad, and recognition and respect for Haffezs (those who have memorized the Holy Quran).

The minister instructed authorities to take practical steps to resolve the backlog in teacher training to improve the quality of primary education.

He suggested conducting training in multiple shifts if necessary to ensure rapid training coverage for all teachers.

Milon also directed that teachers over 50 years of age under nationalized institutions will be included in the training programmes.

The meeting decided to distribute free school uniforms and shoes to more than 200,000 students across every upazila within the next 180 days.

It was also decided that free uniforms and shoes would be provided to all primary-level students nationwide in the shortest possible time.

In addition, plans were made to provide computer tablets to all teachers in primary, technical, madrasah, and school and college education institutions within one year.

It was decided to introduce mathematics Olympiads at the upazila level and make debate competitions and debate clubs mandatory in all educational institutions to promote student talent development.
