CHATTOGRAM, March 23, 2026 (BSS) - The first and second day of Eid-ul-Fitr in Chattogram was filled with festive and cheer as people from all walks of life gathered at tourist spots like sea beaches.
Local BNP leaders and workers offered traditional Mezbani meals to celebrate the occasion. The city experienced light traffic and a peaceful atmosphere, making it a tranquil day. Despite being a bustling port city, Chattogram appeared deserted due to the extended Eid holidays, with fewer commuters and vehicles on the roads. Residents took the opportunity to visit their loved ones and exchange greetings during the leisurely holiday period.
During the festive season, people, especially children, teenagers, and young adults, were seen wearing new clothes and shoes as they happily visited relatives and friends. The atmosphere of security and safety was restored due to strict security measures enforced by law enforcement agencies.
In Chattogram, prominent BNP leaders like National Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, and former city unit general secretary Abu Sufian, MP, organized large Eid gatherings at various locations in the city.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and his son, Ishrafil Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, who is a member of BNP's central foreign affairs committee, exchanged Eid greetings with party leaders, workers, and well-wishers at their Mehdibag residence in the city. The front courtyard and lawn of their ancestral Mehdibagh residence transformed into a gathering place for hundreds of visitors, including leaders, workers, social dignitaries, and well-wishers. Guests were treated with traditional beef Mezbani dishes and sweet treats. Many visitors took the opportunity to take photos with Amir Khasru and Ishrafil Khasru.
State Minister for Land and Hill Tracts Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, hosted a vibrant Eid reunion at his residence 'Dalia Kunje' on Chatteshwari Road in the city. The event, held on the second day of Eid, attracted thousands of people from various backgrounds, including leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates from different areas, who participated from morning to evening.
The festive atmosphere was enjoyed by all, with State Minister Mir Helal, his father BNP Vice Chairman Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, and family members exchanging greetings and extending Eid wishes to the guests.
The event was attended by political leaders, activists, businessmen, lawyers, teachers, journalists, professionals, freedom fighters, family members of martyrs of the July Mass Movement, and injured fighters. Guests were treated to traditional Chattogram hospitality. State Minister Mir Helal highlighted the country's struggle under authoritarian misrule for fifteen years.
City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain hosted an Eid get-together at Saranika Community Center on Noor Ahmed Road, where numerous BNP leaders, workers, and well-wishers gathered from morning till late afternoon. He warmly greeted party members and people from all walks of life, treating them to a variety of beef Mezbani dishes.
Meanwhile, thousands of visitors flocked to Patenga Sea Beach, the country's second-largest beach, as well as Parky Sea Beach in Anowara, Foy's Lake Amusement Park, Water Park Sea World, Chattogram Zoo, Jatisanga Park, Projapati Park in Patenga, the long Marine Road along Kattali coastal area, Avoy Mitra Ghat, Karnaphuli New Bridge, Mohamaya Lake in Mirsharai, tea gardens in Fatikchari, and Bayezeed Link Road. These tourist spots were bustling with people from all walks of life enjoying the festive atmosphere.
This year's Eid festival was marked by a peaceful and secure environment, thanks to tight security measures implemented by various law enforcement agencies. The stable market situation and reasonable prices of essential goods during Ramadan, coupled with the end of the autocratic AL regime, have rejuvenated the public, allowing them to celebrate Eid in a more festive and joyful manner.
