NETROKONA, March 22, 2026 (BSS) - Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Barrister Kaiser Kamal today said Durgapur would be developed as a ‘humane township’ and a prosperous tourism hub.

“We believe in work, not just words. We are not here to make false promises for applause. Our goal is to work for the satisfaction of the Almighty and the welfare of the people,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker made the remarks while addressing as chief guest the 25th anniversary of Durgapur Press Club at the club premises.

The event was presided over by the club president Tobarak Hossain Khokon.

Kaiser Kamal praised the journalists as “the mirror of society and the shield of the oppressed”, and urging them to report on social injustices so that the administration and elected representatives can take appropriate action.

Strongly condemning the illegal land grabbing, he warned that no influential person would be allowed to occupy public or religious property.

Barrister Kaiser Kamal said that construction work is underway for a new railway line in Durgapur and feasibility studies are ongoing for mega bridges over the Someshwari and Mahadeo rivers.

Steps will be taken to stop unscientific sand extraction and ensure environmentally friendly and legal methods, he said.

He said that Durgapur’s five unions-Kullagra, Durgapur Sadar, Lengura, Kharnai, and Rongchati will be developed as a special tourism hub.

Among others, the event was attended by Netrokona Additional District Commissioner (Revenue) Sukhmoy Sarkar, Police Super Md. Tarikul Islam, Durgapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Afroza Afsana, eminent doctor and social worker Dr. Dibalok Singh, officials from the local administration, political leaders, civil society representatives and media personnel, were present at that time.
