DHAKA, Mar 20, 2026 (BSS)- Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr thousands of people are traveling home and the Padma and Jamuna bridges have witnessed a record of vehicle crossings and toll collections in a single day.
According to the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, well-coordinated planning and management to ensure smooth and safe travel during the festive season have resulted in a new milestone.
Between March 17 and 19, a total of 1,09,025 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge compared to 100,802 vehicles during the same period in 2025.
During the three days, toll collection amounted to Taka 12.58 crore, up from Taka 12.078 crore in 2025.
On the Jamuna Bridge, a record 51,384 vehicles crossed the bridge on March 18, surpassing the previous year’s peak of 48,368 vehicles. Toll revenue for the day reached Taka 3.518 crore, compared to Taka 3.462 crore in 2025.
Despite the increased traffic compared to 2025, no major accidents or significant traffic jams were reported.
Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Secretary of the Bridges Division and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority said, it highlights the efficiency and capability of the bridge authorities in managing the country’s road infrastructure.
At the directives of the Prime Minister, he said, the road transport minister and the state minister are closely monitoring the situation, giving the matter the highest priority.
