Seven public universities get VCs

DHAKA, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - The government has appointed new vice-chancellors (VCs) to seven public universities.

In this regard, the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education issued separate notifications yesterday with the approval of the Chancellor.

Prof Dr Md Faridul Islam from the Marketing Department has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University. Prof Dr Mohammad Al Forkan of the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department has been named VC of Chittagong University.

Prof Dr Md Rais Uddin of the Islamic Studies Department will serve as VC of Jagannath University, while Prof Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman of Dhaka University has been appointed VC of Bangladesh Open University.

Prof Md Nurul Islam, currently Pro-VC of the National University, has been appointed VC of Dhaka Central University. Meanwhile, Prof Dr Mohammad Abu Zafar Khan will take charge as VC of Islamic Arabic University.

Prof Dr Muhammad Masud of the Mechanical Engineering Department has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET).

Under the terms of the appointments, each vice-chancellor will serve a four-year term from the date of joining. They will receive salaries, allowances and other benefits in accordance with existing rules and will act as full-time chief executive officers of their respective institutions, with a requirement to remain present on campus.

The notifications, signed by Additional Secretary (University) Alif Rudaba on behalf of the President, stated that the appointments have been made in accordance with the relevant university laws and ordinances and are effective immediately.

Earlier, Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon said the appointments are intended to bring greater dynamism to the administration of public universities.
