DHAKA, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today said Jamaat will not accept anyone's domination over the country.
"Our young generation won't tolerate this at all . . . They want to live with keeping their chests high, they want to show the world that they are proud of being Bangladeshi,” he said at a programme here.
He was speaking at a food pack distribution programme with China's assistance among the needy people at the Adarsh High School grounds in Mirpur here today.
Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Yao Wen was also present at the programme.
The opposition leader highlighted Bangladesh's friendly relations with China there.
Noting that our diplomatic relations with China are 50 years long since Bangladesh was formally recognized in 1975, he said from then China has been one of the largest development partners of Bangladesh.
About the Chinese government's gift on the occasion of Eid, Jamaat Amir said, during the past fascist regime, this sign of our friendship was hijacked. This is extreme ingratitude.
“A country gave us a gift out of love. And their names and marks were mixed up,” he mentioned.
At the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen said, “I am very happy to come here and meet you. We have brought some gifts for your popular festival Eid-ul-Fitr.”
The Chinese Ambassador praised the role of Jamaat Amir as the opposition leader in the parliament and said Jamaat-e-Islami would support the ongoing development projects in Bangladesh in the future to support China's relations with Bangladesh.
The Chinese envoy added: “We want to move forward together. We believe that the Muslim brothers and sisters of Bangladesh will also be partners in building a better life, a new and prosperous Bangladesh.”
