DHAKA, March 11, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) held a coordination meeting today to review the overall law and order situation in the capital and to ensure a safe and smooth celebration of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
The meeting took place at the conference room of the DMP Headquarters and was presided over by Acting DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar.
Speaking as the chair, Sarwar said that Dhaka Metropolitan Police has taken comprehensive preparations to ensure that the holy Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated in a festive and secure environment.
Alongside the initiatives taken by law enforcement agencies, he emphasized the importance of security awareness at both individual and institutional levels.
He said that all government agencies must carry out their duties with greater attention and sincerity to ensure a smooth Eid celebration.
To guarantee the safety of travelers, adequate numbers of uniformed police will be deployed at launch terminals, bus terminals and railway stations, he also said.
In addition, plainclothes police, members of the Detective Branch (DB), SWAT, dog squad and mounted police will remain on duty, he added.
The DMP Commissioner further said that police personnel are working tirelessly to make the Eid journey comfortable for passengers.
He noted that many problems associated with Eid travel can be solved through collective cooperation and effective coordination among all concerned organizations.
Sarwar also urged magistrates of relevant organizations to ensure proper security arrangements around Eid congregations and to intensify mobile court operations to prevent the collection of excessive fares from passengers.
Highlighting the current situation, he mentioned that the overall law and order in the capital has improved significantly due to the active operations of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
As a result of continuous police action, crimes such as robbery and extortion have decreased to a large extent, he continued.
He concluded by saying that a safe, peaceful and joyful Eid celebration can be ensured only through the sincere cooperation and participation of all.
Representatives from various intelligence agencies, specialized police units, the Department of Shipping, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, Bangladesh Road Transport Federation, Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners Association, Bangladesh Truck Drivers' Workers Federation, Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association, Launch Workers' Association, BKMEA, BGMEA, BIWTA, Roads and Highways Department, Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation, Fire Service and Civil Defense, and other government and private service providers attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, DMP Joint Police Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah, presented the overall security plan through a PowerPoint presentation.
Representatives from different organizations later participated in an open discussion and shared their opinions.
Among others present at the meeting were DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S. N. Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics) Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Md. Shafiqul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (CTTC) Md. Masud Karim, Additional Police Commissioner (Protection and Diplomatic Security) Sana Shaminur Rahman and Additional Police Commissioner (Estate, Development and ICT) Mohammad Osman Gani, along with other senior police officers and representatives of relevant organizations.
