LAKSHMIPUR, March 10, 2026 (BSS) - Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee today said Tarique Rahman is the Prime Minister of the people and the nation, not just of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

He made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting organised by the Sanatan community in Lakshmipur.

Anee said Tarique Rahman, in office for less than a month, has already shown his capability to lead the country effectively.

"He is not the Prime Minister of any group; he is Bangladesh's Prime Minister," he added.

The minister highlighted that the "Family Card" initiative is for the people, with ownership given to female heads of households.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has already started implementing the programme on a pilot basis, formally inaugurating it today.

Anee urged all communities, including Hindus, to participate in national development, saying BNP politics respects all religions.

He recalled that justice-oriented politics were upheld under the leadership of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia and expressed hope that Tarique Rahman would continue the legacy.

The programme was presided over by Babu Shankar Majumdar, president of the Lakshmipur Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, and conducted by Shimul Sahar, general secretary of the Central Youth Unity Council.
