DHAKA, March 10, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister's Political Adviser and BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas today said attempts to embarrass the government in a bid to gain power will not bring development to the country.
Mirza Abbas made the remarks while addressing an iftar and doa mahfil as the chief guest, organised by the Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College and Hospital Unit BNP at the Shaila Hafez Auditorium in the capital today.
He said the new government has only just begun its work, yet some political parties are trying from the outset to portray it as a failure.
"If anyone thinks of coming to power by embarrassing the government, the country's development will not be ensured. Development requires cooperation from all political parties," he said.
He said the new government, as part of fulfilling the demands raised during the movement, has introduced nearly 36,000 benefits within a few days of assuming office, adding that more facilities would be introduced gradually.
"The government is completely new. But a section of people and political parties are speaking as if it were a 17-year-old government that has done nothing," he said.
Abbas said it is not possible to provide everything immediately, as every government needs time to implement its plans.
"However, the present government has started its work without even getting the opportunity to take rest," he added.
He also said the world is currently going through a difficult situation and some problems are therefore natural.
But some political parties are trying to use these issues to embarrass the government, he said, adding that if someone comes to power by embarrassing another government, they too will face the same situation one day.
"Development does not only mean building roads and bridges. Ensuring food, clothing, housing and healthcare for people is also part of development," Abbas said.
Addressing physicians, he said serving people is both a profession and a noble duty, and doctors should further improve the quality of healthcare by maintaining both aspects together.
Mirza Abbas said Bangladesh has achieved notable progress in several areas of healthcare, including heart surgery, eye treatment, dental care and diabetes treatment.
He added that patients from neighbouring countries also come to Bangladesh for diabetes treatment.
He expressed hope that through improved medical services and care, physicians would contribute to advancing the country and the nation while cooperating with the government and the people.
