DHAKA, March 10, 2026 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today said disasters strike without prior warning and can suddenly engulf lives and settlements, stressing the need for constant preparedness to mitigate their impacts.
"Disasters do not come with prior notice. They strike suddenly and affect lives and localities. Therefore, we must remain prepared at all times to reduce the suffering caused by disasters," he said.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion organised by the ministry marking the National Disaster Preparedness Day-2026 at the Secretariat here this afternoon as the chief guest.
He said Bangladesh has become a role model in dealing with natural disasters and stressed the need to utilise all possible means to overcome man-made disasters as well.
"To achieve this, cooperation, compassion, determination, courage, coordination, harmony and solidarity are essential," he added.
National Disaster Preparedness Day is observed on March 10 every year. This year's theme of the day is "We will fight in disaster preparedness, build a Bangladesh of youth".
Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Saidur Rahman Khan chaired the programme.
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M. Iqbal Hossain, Additional Secretary K M Abdul Wadud and Director General of the Department of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman, among others, also spoke at the event.
