NOAKHALI, March 10, 2026 (BSS) - Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, MP, has said that the Musapur Regulator is not only a concern for Musapur but also a critical issue affecting the lives and livelihoods of people across greater Noakhali.
“The government is actively working on plans to protect residents of the region. It will take urgent steps to construct Musapur Regulator to save the greater Noakhali,” he said.
The minister made the remarks today while addressing an inspection and views-exchange meeting in Companiganj after visiting the Musapur reservoir area and the erosion-affected banks of the Choto Feni River.
According to the minister, the government will take necessary steps to construct the Musapur reservoir as soon as possible.
The minister added that the problems of the area were first identified in 2003 by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who had taken initiatives to improve the Musapur settlement.
The Musapur Regulator, which was damaged during the devastating floods in 2024, is currently being repaired in cooperation with the Bangladesh Navy.
He also noted that the approval process for a large-scale long-term project to protect people in the region is underway.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, MP, who was present at the event, said that since the election he has been hearing about the severe problems faced by residents of Musapur.
People in the area continue to suffer from insecurity due to ongoing river erosion, he said, adding that after assuming office, the issue was brought to the attention of the Water Resources Ministry and the Prime Minister, both of whom are aware of the situation.
He added that initiatives will be taken soon to approve the construction project for the Musapur Regulator.
Member of Parliament from Noakhali-5 Mohammad Fakrul Islam was also present at the meeting.
Others attended included Additional Director General of the Bangladesh Water Development Board Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, Superintendent of Police Mosharraf Hossain, and resident engineer SM Rafiat Jamil.
