Home ministry reviews proposal of creating 4,000 SI posts

DHAKA, March 10, 2026 (BSS) - The ministry of Home Affairs today held a meeting to review the proposal of creating 4,000 Sub-Inspector (SI) posts to strengthen the capacity of Bangladesh Police in maintaining law and order across the country.

According to a ministry official, the review meeting was held this afternoon in the conference room of the ministry with Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury in the chair.

The meeting discussed a proposal received from the Police Department regarding creation of 4,000 unarmed SI Grade-10 (Unarmed) posts in various units under the organizational structure of Bangladesh Police.

The initiative comes as part of efforts to address the manpower shortage in the police force.

Soon after assuming office, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed raised the issue of recruitment to resolve staffing shortages at different levels of the police.

During a meeting with the heads of various departments under the ministry on February 23, the minister directed authorities to take immediate steps to fill all vacant posts.

He instructed officials to urgently complete the recruitment process for vacant constable positions.

Later, on February 26, the Home Minister also announced the immediate recruitment of 180 vacant posts of police sergeants.

In the meantime, recruitment notices have already been published for the vacant positions of constables and police sergeants, and the application process for both posts has begun.

Officials believe that the proposed recruitment of additional Sub-Inspectors will significantly enhance the operational capacity of Bangladesh Police and help ensure improved law and order management across the country.
