Bangladesh & Canada pledge to strengthen cooperation in education

DHAKA, Mar 8, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh and Canada have reached a consensus to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, skills development, and technology-based learning.

They agreed on this cooperation when Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh education minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon at latter’s office in the Secretariat today.

The meeting focused on the long-standing partnership between the two countries in the education and development sectors.

Recalling Canada's contributions to education and institutional development since Bangladesh's independence, both sides expressed their commitment to deepening this relationship further.

During the meeting, Education Minister Dr. Ehsanul Haque Milon informed that the government is currently reviewing the framework of the 'Private University Act' to allow reputable foreign universities to operate in Bangladesh, ensuring proper academic standards and improved infrastructure.

The ongoing Canadian cooperation in strengthening Bangladesh's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system was highly appreciated during the meeting. It was mentioned that Canada is working in this sector in partnership with the ILO and the World Bank.

Both sides agreed to continue discussions at the technical level aimed at capacity building, professional training, and knowledge exchange.

High Commissioner Ajit Singh assured Canada's continued close cooperation in helping Bangladesh achieve its human resource development goals. He emphasized the critical importance of regular dialogue between the governments and educational institutions of the two countries to identify priority areas.

According to a press release from the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Education, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to building a sustainable partnership in the education sector for the well-being of future generations.
