PABNA, Mar 8, 2026 (BSS)- Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam today visited the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna.

Adviser to the Prime Minister Rehan Asif Asad was present during the visit.

During the visit, the project director showed the minister and the adviser different installations of the project and briefed them on its progress.

Addressing a meeting with the officials of the projects, concerned ministries and local administration the minister said the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will play an important role in ensuring the country’s energy security. 

Once operational, the advanced technology-based plant will increase electricity generation capacity and support sustainable energy management, he said.

The minister said the government is working to expand the use of modern technology in the power and energy sectors and instructed the authorities concerned to complete the project maintaining safety and international standards.

Adviser Rehan Asif Asad said large engineering projects often face technical challenges, which must be addressed efficiently through coordinated teamwork to achieve the set goals.

Science and Technology Secretary Md Anwar Hossain described the project as a milestone in Bangladesh’s energy sector and expressed hope that electricity from the plant will be added to the national grid within the scheduled time.

Russian Ambassador Alexander Grigoryevich Khozin said the Russian Federation is working as a key partner in Bangladesh’s technological advancement and praised the joint efforts of Bangladeshi engineers and Russian experts in implementing the project.
