RANGPUR, March 8, 2026 (BSS) - The International Women's Day-2026 was
celebrated with due dignity at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) on
Sunday through various colorful programmes.
On the occasion of the day, a colorful rally was organised at the initiative
of the Department of Gender and Development Studies of the university.
Led by BRUR Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali as the chief
guest, the rally, which started from the university campus, circled the main
roads in the surrounding areas.
At this time, the VC said that it is not possible to build a just and
sustainable society without empowering women and ensuring their fair rights.
"Everyone in the family, society and the state must work to ensure the
safety, dignity and equal opportunities of women and girls," he said.
He further said that universities have to play an important role in
establishing women's rights by creating awareness and building a knowledge-
based society.
Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam, Head of
the Department of Gender and Development Studies Kuntala Chowdhury, Assistant
Prof of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Niyamun Nahar,
and teachers, students, officials and employees of various departments were
present.
Marking the day, a 'Commitment Board for Establishing an Equality-Based
Society' was set up in front of the university's Kabi Hayat Mamud Bhaban.
There, teachers and students expressed their spontaneous opinions and
commitments for the rights, protection and non-discrimination of women and
building a discrimination-free society.
